All begins with a bench.
Children who are interested in building and fixing things need a space to store and work. Most of their needs can be met by a workbench that has a shelf under it. Kids will benefit from workbenches with a height of about 34 inches. A depth of 30 inches is ideal for keeping everything at their fingertips.
Pegboards add organization
Pegboard is a great way to organize your tools. Attach the sheet of furring strips (1×2 inch) to the backside of the pegboard with CA glue and activator spray. Once the pegboard is attached, screw the frame 1×2 through the face and into the wall studs.
Stock up on tools
It’s not necessary to stock a kids’ workshop overnight. As they accumulate allowance, and as needed, they can purchase tools. Some tools and materials they may want to consider adding include:

Inspiration is essential to any kids’ workshop. You can find many books with project ideas for children. Add one to your pegboard, and have enough lumber available for inspiration.
